LAKTOS a.s.

The Czech company Laktos a.s. builds upon and continues the dairy production tradition and experience of the dairy industry in the Czech Republic over the past decades. The Laktos trademark was first registered on 26 November 1936 and now it is included in the international register. During the years, Laktos has become one of the key food-processing plants in the Czech Republic.

The most extensive development had taken place in the sixties when LAKTOS processed 340,000,000 liters of milk a year. It has consolidated the biggest milk processing plants in the nation and so become the key producer and distributor of diary products in the nation.

In 1993, Laktos was privatized and its main objective was orientation on exports of dairy commodities. Therefore, it is no wonder that the company's position and respect was growing not only in the world markets, but it was also becoming a very important trading company in the Czech Republic. The present business activities of Laktos a.s. are based particularly on the four linchpins: foreign trade, domestic trade, sale of feed mixtures and trade in&nbspgrain.

The term of international trade became partly narrower after accession of the Czech Republic to the European Union because exports of dairy commodities mean in particulars exports to non-EU countries. But there are still some markets where Laktos a.s. has a strong position: in the Arabic countries, in Balkan and in Asia. Very interesting countries from the business point of view are Romania and Bulgaria where the company has the exclusive position of foreign companies in sale of dairy products. For this reason, also Laktos a. s. is a partial owner of the logistic and distribution company in Bourgas, Bulgaria.

Domestic trade is characterized in particular by sale of dairy products with the own trademark of Laktos. Products with this trademark are produced by the most significant dairy producers in Europe. Sales of products are realized mostly in chain stores not only in the Czech market, but also in Slovakia, Poland and the increasing and more and more successful Romanian and Bulgarian markets.

LAKTOS a.s. also has in its possession titles to successful trademarks introduced on the Czech market already for a number of years and, therefore, still maintaining the company popularity and demand for diary products. “Smetánek” and “Pacholík” – kids’ creamy snacks are the most popular products as well as “Jovokoktejl” and “Biokys” – sour-processed diary products or, e.g. “Laktosan” – a diary feed substitute for calves. LAKTOS a.s. is fully aware of winning recognition and maintaining the trademark being a task not too easy and long-term and, therefore, a lot of investment is made into the sales support, marketing and exhibitions and fairs.

At the present time, Laktos a. s. also ranks among the biggest dealers of feed for domestic animals in the Czech Republic. The company also makes use of the good and long-standing relationships with agricultural companies in another activity, which is sale of grain in the EU countries. Purchase and sale of grain in the Czech Republic and also in Slovakia and Romania is a new activity of Laktos a. s.
